East Africa Editors Society Hosts The Africa Editors Forum BGM 2024
The Africa Editors Forum (TAEF) convened its Biannual General Meeting (BGM) in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 20th, 2024, marking a significant milestone for journalism across the continent. This gathering, attended by prominent editors and media professionals from various African nations, served as a platform for deliberations on pressing issues shaping the media landscape.

One of the highlights of the event was the election held concurrently, which resulted in the appointment of new leadership. Mr Churchill Otieno, a distinguished figure in Kenyan journalism and the Executive Director of Eastern Africa Editors Society, emerged as the new Chairperson, succeeding Jovial Rantao from South Africa. Churchill's extensive experience and vision for advancing press freedom and journalistic integrity garnered widespread support among the forum members.

Furthermore, the election saw Mr. Emmanuel Dogbevi from Ghana elected as the Vice Chair, Ms Emang Mutapati from Botswana as the Secretary General and the South Africa National Editors Forum (SANEF) chair Mr. Sbu Ngalwa as the Treasurer, reflecting a diverse and inclusive leadership structure representing different regions of Africa. This collaborative effort underscores the forum's commitment to fostering solidarity and cooperation among media practitioners across the continent.
The BGM in Nairobi not only showcased the resilience and dynamism of African journalism but also reinforced the vital role of the Africa Editors Forum in advocating for ethical journalism, press freedom, and the promotion of democratic values in the digital age.
